About Us

At Weldon Owen Publishing, we’re committed to creating enduring and exciting books for children and families to treasure, books that provide a memorable experience for the reader, inspire the imagination and build knowledge.

Working with the best writers, illustrators, designers and paper-engineers around the world, our mission is to encourage young readers to treasure books and revisit them time and time again. We take pride in creating content that is rich in information and educational value, and presented in an engaging and entertaining way, both visually and textually.

Digital

Meeting the challenges of a rapidly changing publishing world with a vibrant program of beautifully designed, editorially driven books that provide a rich experience for the reader is our mission. Our skills in highly illustrated publishing and experience in the development of supplementary digital content position us well to create content for a range of mediums and devices, beyond the printed book.

A brief history

Weldon Owen was founded in Sydney, Australia, in 1984 by Kevin Weldon and John Owen. The first US office was established in Seattle, Washington, in 1988 and relocated to San Francisco a year later. The company was restructured following Kevin Weldon’s retirement in 1997 and in 2006 was acquired by UK-based Bonnier Publishing Group, part of Bonnier Books, which is a division of Bonnier AB, a family-owned media group based in Sweden. Weldon Owen Inc. continues to operate from San Francisco.

Sales

Weldon Owen Publishing’s head office is in London, England, but the company is international in its reach, with sales representatives located in the US, the UK (serving the UK and Europe), Latin America and throughout Asia.

Our books are typically sold on a co-edition basis or under license to publishers throughout the world, or are developed exclusively in partnership with a publisher or retailer to meet the needs of their market. Broad international appeal and enduring backlist potential have been the hallmarks of Weldon Owen’s packaging business.
